Dr Nadya Rubinstein

Dr. Nadya Assaf Rubinstein, ND grew up in Southern California, attending Mount Saint Mary’s College where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology and minor in chemistry. She completed her Master’s in Human Development, specializing in Lactation Consulting from Pacific Oaks College. From there she attended Bastyr University where she received her doctoral degree in Naturopathic Medicine in 2009 and a certificate in Midwifery in 2012.

Prior to becoming a Naturopathic Physician, she practiced as a massage therapist, which she continues to integrate into the treatments of her patients, particularly to address issues of the pelvic floor including pain, incontinence, and other issues of the pelvis. Dr. Rubinstein has been practicing naturopathic medicine for 10 years, working with family health and cancer.

She is a published writer, teacher and mentor.

“Working in the field of Naturopathic Medicine is an answer to my prayers. It offers so much to my patients and helps reconnect them to themselves and the healing powers of nature. It is my joy to work with patients looking for a way to live healthier and find balance in their lives.”

Dr. Rubinstein is happily married with three beautiful children. She enjoys gardening, spinning yarn, and traveling.

Dr Joshua Rubinstein

Dr. Joshua Rubinstein, ND is a graduate of Bastyr University where he received his doctoral degree in Naturopathic Medicine. Previous to his education at Bastyr, Dr. Rubinstein attended the University of Puget Sound where he received a B.S. in Biology.  In addition to seeing patients, Dr. Rubinstein is also a professor at Bastyr University.
He has a background in integrated health care and enjoys educating patients in how to live healthier, happier, more rewarding lives.

“I believe in the body’s inherent healing power.  Often, if the body is left alone and allowed to function properly, it will heal itself…it’s more about removing obstacles to cure rather than adding on more to our busy routines.” One of the techniques Dr. Rubinstein uses to treat his patients is called "Functional-Indirect." It is a form of realigning the spine without the “cracking” experienced with most chiropractic adjustments.  “I’ve found that this technique is wonderful for pain relief and greater ease of movement in a respectful, gentle manner.”  Dr. Rubinstein uses "Functional-Indirect" in combination with nutrition and homeopathy in working with patients needlessly suffering from autoimmune diseases such as fibromyalgia, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Rubinstein is also able to help patients with skin complaints. He offers such treatments such as wart removal, biopsies, removal of subcutaneous cysts and minor wound repair.

The health of the physical body is intimately connected with our mental and emotional states.  Dr. Rubinstein recognizes this when working with his patients. More and more research is showing how our imbalanced emotions can cause sickness and chronic illnesses.  Stress and unresolved anger are all part of this picture. Dr. Rubinstein helps his patients find approaches that can reduce stress and attain a higher degree of happiness in life. In his spare time, he enjoys gardening, hiking with the family and their dogs and playing games with his children.

What is a Naturopathic Doctor?

A Naturopathic Doctor, or ND, treats patients based on the belief that the body has the wisdom to heal itself. They work with their patients to find individualized treatments to support the healing process.

They are physicians trained at an accredited postgraduate institution and go through a rigorous four year medical program studying basic science courses such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and pathology.

NDs also learn about various health and healing interventions including therapies in botanical medicine, homeopathy, physical medicine, hydrotherapy, nutrition and counseling.

They must complete several hours of clinical training under the supervision of an advising physician, and pass board examinations.

The Naturopathic Philosophy of Care:

  1. Healing Power of Nature (Vis Medicatrix Naturae) – The physical body is constantly working to maintain health and Naturopathic Doctors work to support that process.

  2. First Do No Harm (Primum Non Nocere)- NDs strive to use methods that are least invasive but extremely effective in aiding in the healing process.

  3. Doctor as Teacher (Docere) – Time is spent during visits educating patients about their conditions and how to reach their health goals.

  4. Address the Underlying Cause (Totalle Causeum)  – The goal is to address the underlying issues causing the symptoms experienced by the patient.

  5. Treat the Whole Person – Human beings are more than their physical bodies.  Treatments are aimed to address health on all levels; mental, emotional, and physical.

  6. Prevention – The best way to avoid the progression of any illness is prevention. NDs work with patients through education to teach ways to live happier and healthier.
